Cheese and Guava or Romeo and Juliet with Cia Cênica
‍
A bilingual performance inspired by Shakespeare’s most famous classic, Romeo and Juliet, and the romantic songs of the "King" of Brazilian music, Roberto Carlos. Presented in a cabaret format, the play explores themes of colonialism and cultural division with a critical, biting, and tragicomic tone. The title hints at the contrasting flavors that permeate the work, blending traditional British literature with Brazilian popular culture. Premiering in 2026, the show was featured at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe in Scotland—the world’s largest arts festival—as part of the main program at Summerhall Arts.

Cia Cênica will also host a workshop on the show's creative process on October 30th at the Cultura Inglesa Pinheiros branch; please check the schedule for details.
