Workshop: Mirrors of My Roots - Self-Portraiture as a Way to Reclaim Memories
With Samuel Silva, Visual Artist and Art Educator
An experimental painting workshop that uses self-portraiture as a starting point to reflect on identity, memory, ancestry, and belonging. The session invites participants to look inward, recognizing the stories, people, places, symbols, and references that shape their personal journeys. Through reflection and observation exercises, each participant will develop their own self-portrait, experimenting with colors, shapes, textures, and various modes of representation. No prior painting experience is required.
Samuel Silva is a visual artist and art educator from São Paulo. His work explores ancestry, memory, and identity as paths for artistic inquiry, deeply influenced by Afro-Brazilian traditions and everyday imagery. Through painting and portraiture, he seeks to honor the stories and references that span generations, keeping the memories of ancestors alive.
