Workshop: Mirrors of My Roots - Self-Portrait as a Recovery of Memories
With Samuel Silva, Visual Artist and Art Educator
A painting experimentation workshop that uses the self-portrait as a starting point to reflect on identity, memory, ancestry, and belonging. The proposal invites participants to look inward, recognizing the stories, people, places, symbols, and references that are part of their journey. Through reflection and observation exercises, each participant develops their own self-portrait, experimenting with colors, shapes, textures, and different possibilities of representation. No prior painting experience is required.
Samuel Silva is a visual artist and art educator from São Paulo. His work stems from ancestry, memory, and identity as paths of artistic investigation, permeated by Afro-Brazilian traditions and everyday imagery. Through painting and portraiture, he seeks to value stories and references that span generations, keeping the memories of ancestors alive.
